It is beneficial to be familiar with military ceremonies and traditions for the same reason it is important for travelers to learn about the foreign countries they visit. It is important not to offend the host and be a positive representative of America. Similarly, family members are representatives of Service Members and the military when attending events. Therefore, it is important to understand and participate in common customs and courtesies that are a part of military culture. By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:

  • Recall appropriate protocol for the American flag and the National Anthem, and
  • Identify common military honors, customs, and ceremonies.
