Welcome to National Guard Family Program’s e-learning lesson on understanding resilience. This lesson will introduce you to the concept of resilience and help you understand how strengthening resilience can be helpful for National Guard families. At the end of this lesson, you will be able to define resilience, explain the importance of resilience, and discuss how resilience can provide a framework for working with National Guard families.

Resilient families can more easily adjust to stress and change.

National Guard families can be exposed to stressors and situations, such as deployments, that non-Guard families may not experience. If family members are resilient, they can more easily adapt to and recover from these types of experiences.

Understanding resilience will aid you in your work with Guard families.

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Define resilience;
  • Explain the importance of resilience;
  • Discuss how resilience can provide a framework for working with National Guard families.
