Welcome to the National Guard Family Program e-learning lesson on Elements of Effective Newsletters. When done well, newsletters have the power to inform, engage, persuade, and evoke emotion within the reader. This training will explore the steps involved in conceptualizing, designing, and distributing a newsletter. At the end of this training you will be able to explain the purpose and value of newsletters, identify elements of effective newsletters, and recall strategies and techniques for developing effective newsletters.

Newsletters connect Family Program staff with the families they serve.

Newsletters provide Family Program staff with a great venue to reach out to families and connect them with much-needed support, information, and resources. In addition to being educational, newsletters can provide readers with a creative outlet, a way to communicate with peers, and a setting in which to celebrate each other's accomplishments.

Effective newsletters are the result of foresight, planning, and hard work.

Effective newsletters don't happen by accident—they take time, effort, and deliberate focus. The tools, resources, and information included in this lesson will equip you with knowledge and tips to help you create a well-read and well-received newsletter.
